Doing it is not so simple.
I, like many others, have tried and failed to accomplish this goal. It really is a daunting task when looked at in whole: to read through all 1,189 chapters, 31,101 verses in a single year. This alone discourages many people from even starting. Others begin, only to fall behind on their reading schedule, trying to catch up, then getting frustrated that it never happens, giving up entirely. Or they make it to Leviticus and suddenly have very important things to do…
I have been there, and I know many others have. But this year I have been challenged to accomplish this goal: to read through the entire Word in 2011. And you’re going to help by reading with me! This challenge also comes as a part of a larger endeavor: the Radical Experiment, which I also invite you to join me in.
9 Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
10 If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.
11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
12 Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. – Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
The body of Christ is just that: a body made up of members which are meant to support each other, and so function to their fullest capacity. This is the idea behind bible:365, to gather a community that will together take on the challenge of reading through the Bible in a year. The reason here is twofold: one, that we can remain accountable to one another to stay on track; and two, that we can share what we are learning and how God is speaking to us and growing us through this project.
So join me in the bible:365 project, or go all in with the Radical Experiment. I will be posting a reflection for each day of reading (helps me process what I read, good to share what I’m learning, and keeps me accountable!), and would love to hear from you what you are learning, and give you a platform to share it with others, so please, discuss the readings in the comments, or if you have something you would like to see posted, send me an email!

I will also be posting a short introduction to each book, so if you have the resources and would like to write one of these introductions, let me know!
